Poland’s PM spoke to EU leaders about situation in Belarus
Yesterday, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Polish Foreign Minister Jacek Czaputowicz held talks with EU officials on the recent developments in Belarus around Sunday’s presidential elections in the country.
Earlier in the day, Mateusz Morawiecki called on European Commission and European Council heads Ursula von der Leyen and Charles Michel to convene an extraordinary summit on Belarus. Later the Polish PM discussed the matter with Ursula von der Leyen and received a written response from Charles Michel to his earlier appeal. President of the European Council informed Morawiecki that the Belarus issue would be raised at an EU summit in September.
According to the EU source, Jacek Czaputowicz discussed the situation in Belarus with EU diplomacy head Josep Borrell. The situation in Belarus is also to be on the agenda of an August informal meeting of foreign ministers in Berlin.
