A debate entitled “The Round Table on Belarus” organized by the Warsaw Institute Foundation and the editorial board of The Warsaw Institute Review quarterly, with the participation of the most important Polish think tanks, took place on September 30.
Since August 9, 2020, i.e. since the Belarusian presidential election, we have been witnessing the democratic changes taking place in Belarus, the further fate of which currently rests on the shoulders of Belarusian citizens. Observing the course of the ongoing events, questions arise as to how Poland can effectively engage in the Belarusian issue and what should be the role of international organizations in this situation?
Experts representing: National Security Bureau, the Warsaw Institute Foundation, the Jagiellonian Club, the Centre for Eastern Studies, Foundation Institute for Eastern Studies, the Polish Institute of International Affairs, the Republican Foundation and the Polish Economic Institute, jointly discussed the matters of Poland’s and the region’s military security in the face of the growing presence of Russian troops in Belarus, the capabilities of Poland to support democratic movements in Belarus as well as the strengths and weaknesses of international organizations regarding the dynamic situation in Eastern Europe.
The most important propositions and recommendations of the meeting will be presented in a joint special report. Ultimately, it will contain a set of guidelines for the Polish government and EU decision-makers on how to support peaceful social movements, along with suggestions for sanctions against the violent apparatus of power and much more.

Preparation of the debate (concept, implementation, realization) was possible thanks to co-financing from the Civil Society Organisations Development Programme 2019.

Selected activities of our institution are supported in cooperation with The National Freedom Institute – Centre for Civil Society Development.
