Czech-Polish Forum – Year 2024: Interparliamentary Security Academy Policy Report

The Czech Republic and Poland have a long-standing history of collaboration that has grown from the establishment of diplomatic relations into a strong partnership across economic, cultural, and security domains.

This report synthesizes the outcomes of bilateral discussions between the Czech and Polish parliamentary assistants and offers recommendations to enhance parliamentary cooperation in three sections titled Common Challenges and Opportunities, Shared Vision for Regional/EU Cooperation, and Strengthening Parliamentary Collaboration

The first section addresses shared challenges between both nations with possible growth opportunities benefiting both nations. Polish and Czech interests converge in defense where Poland’s military modernization program and increased defense spending offers opportunities for Czech defense companies. Further points of collaboration include energy development, transport infrastructure between Poland and the Czech Republic, and tackling issues caused by disinformation in media together.

The second section titled includes a discussion on strengthening the Visegrad Group (V4) and enhancing EU contributions. Poland and the Czech Republic unite on key issues which invites joint leadership from the two nations to foster cohesion and promote shared objectives. As for EU contributions, the Czech Republic’s 2022 EU Council Presidency offers a unique jumping off point for Poland’s agenda during its 2025 term.

The third and final section of the report explores institutionalizing cooperation through engagement. The creation of strong ties between the two nations is dependent on parliamentary engagement. However, it will only be sustained in the long-term by youth and civil society engagement. In conclusion, the report offers readers a comprehensive overview of what is on the horizon for the relationship between the two nations.
